Fire Safety
The Office of Fire Safety is required to provide appropriate and timely information to the Emory Police Department (EPD) to support and maintain the accurate publication of the Daily Fire Log and make it available, upon request, for public inspection. The Office of Fire Safety must manage the development, collection and reporting of fire-related statistical data and narrative information for inclusion in the Fire Safety portion the ASR/AFSR to
include:
• A description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system.
• The number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year in each student housing facility
• Policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking and open flames in a student
housing facility.
• Procedures for student housing evacuation in the case of a fire.
• Policies regarding fire safety education and training programs provided to the students and
employees. In these policies, the institution must describe the procedures that students and
employees should follow in the case of a fire.
• A list of the titles of each person or organization to which students and employees should report that a fire occurred.
• Plans for future improvements in fire safety, if determined necessary by the institution.
The Office of Fire Safety manages the development, collection and reporting of fire related statistical data for inclusion in the annual submission of crime and fire statistic data to the Department of Education via the on-line data collection survey tool.The Director of Fire Safety and the University Fire Safety Coordinator serve as the institutional officials designated to investigate the occurrence of fires and, when deemed appropriate, to identify “Arson” as the cause of a fire for Clery Act statistical purposes (as Arson is defined by the Clery Act).
